Hi, I'm Debra.
Like you, I've faced life's ups and downs.
But my faith has always been there, strong and steady.
Years of studying the Bible and theology have helped me learn how to guide others on their journey of faith.
With that in mind, I made His Kingdom Matters.
It's a guide for anyone looking to make their faith in God stronger.
I entered this world surrounded by the embrace of Christianity, born into a family where faith was woven into the fabric of our lives. My roots were a mix of Catholicism and Baptist traditions, a spiritual tapestry shaped by the diverse influences of my parents and grandparents. The pews of both Catholic and Baptist churches became familiar seats in my childhood, with Sunday services and nightly prayers marking the rhythm of my days.
But it wasn't until life, in all its rawness, confronted me that I truly encountered Jesus on a personal level. Life has been a journey of unexpected twists and turns, a rollercoaster of joy and pain that has shaped my understanding of faith.
From a young age, I faced unspeakable challenges, from the darkness of abuse to the tumultuous storms of failed relationships. The loss of loved ones cast shadows over my path, with the death of my only brother serving as a piercing blow. In that heart-wrenching moment, kneeling before a closed church door, I discovered that Jesus wasn't confined within those walls. His presence was not locked away, and I didn't need a candle to commune with Him. It was a turning point, a realization that my connection with Jesus transcended the physical confines of a building.
The tumult continued, but through the pain, I found resilience. A new chapter unfolded when I met my future husband, leading us to a Bible-believing church where we nurtured our faith. Blending our families, we embraced the chaos of parenting and sought to instill godly values in our children.
Life's unpredictable nature threw another curveball with the loss of our baby, a heartbreaking experience that tested our faith. Yet, from the depths of that tragedy, we discovered a profound sense of assurance that our child was cradled in the arms of Jesus.
Navigating through career shifts and geographical relocations, I witnessed God's guiding hand orchestrating miracles. The path led us to Iowa, a place where snow-covered landscapes became a canvas for learning trust, dependence, and the prioritization of God in my life.
In the pursuit of knowledge and personal growth, I embarked on a doctoral journey, navigating the corridors of one of the most conservative Christian colleges. This academic pursuit, in contrast to the challenges of family life, became a sanctuary where faith and learning converged.
Tragedy struck again with the unexpected passing of my father, prompting a move to Colorado Springs. The signs were evident, and once more, we trusted God's plan. Transitioning from a stable career to uncertainty, I embraced the unknown, finding unexpected peace in dependence on God.
The journey has been a mosaic of pain and joy, loss and gain, but through it all, my relationship with Jesus has deepened. We may desire a grand roadmap for the future, but God, in His wisdom, often reveals just a step at a time. As we pray for wisdom, guidance, and direction, we are reminded that God's plan is a masterpiece, woven with threads of hope and faith, leading us to a destination where the reunion with our loved ones in Heaven awaits.
